Removing Age Spots

Almost everybody can have age spots, which also goes by the name sun spots or solar lentigines. The skin’s exposure to the sun is one of its primary factors. But there is no need to worry since treatments for age spots are available. You can remedy them at home or have it treated in a clinic. But before we go on, let’s review the origin of age spots.

Melanin is the section of body which gives us our skin color. Melanin is the skin’s shield against too much ultraviolet rays. Too much ultraviolet radiation can damage skin cells, and worse it could also lead to cancer.   When the accumulated wasted melanin in skin bundles together, age spots are born.

Before concluding if you have age spots, a doctor’s confirmation is needed first. After the dermatologist or any skin care professional confirms it is age spots indeed, you can try the following treatments:

HOME MADE TREATMENTS

•    Extracted onion juice and apple cider must be mixed in an equal ratio. Apply to affected areas with cotton and leave for about half an hour.

•    Aloe vera extract or aloe vera in gel or juice form can also be rubbed or applied directly to the affected areas. Do this in the morning and evening, treatment should be left on skin for about an hour.

•    Lemon juice has properties that can help in lightening age spots. Just apply newly squeezed lemon juice in the morning and in the evening, leaving it to dry for about thirty minutes. Just remember that if you have something to do outside, don’t apply lemon juice on your skin for it will easily burn.

•    You can also use castor grease.

The downside of the procedures mentioned above is that it may not have any effect at all. If you want a quick and effective way to eradicate age spots, you can try the options below.

OTHER TREATMENTS

•    Microdermabrasion/dermabrasion – as its name suggest, this involves abrading the skin or peeling it off for new skin cells to emerge.     This is a rather poor choice because of the pain and slow healing time.

•    Another means to remove age spots quickly is by chemical peels. Chemical peels use chemicals to remove old skin cells allowing the regeneration of new skin cells.

•    Although expensive, you can be sure that laser treatments will give you a more lasting result. The good thing about laser treatment is that it does not damage neighboring cells. You can almost feel no ache when you got through this treatment.

If you already have gone through such procedures and eventually got rid of dark spots, its time to give your skin more care. As always, avoid too much sun exposure. The use of any sun shield be it umbrella or sunscreens is recommended. Age spots can return if you do not take care of your skin.
