How Do You Remove Age Spots

Age spots are benign blotches that appear on the skin due to the irregular production of melanin, especially due to the prolonged exposure to the ultra violet rays of the sun. The name is derived from the fact that they are mostly common in old people. This phenomenon can be attributed to the fact that old people are the ones who have had the most exposure to the sun’s rays. Apart from the sun, other causes of age spots include poor diet, lack of exercise and smoking.

This condition may not be painful but it can develop to cancer. On top of that, it negatively affects one’s looks. These two factors are enough to make a person want to get rid of the spots as soon as possible.

There are many ways that one can use to remove age spots. They all differ in effectiveness and the amount of time taken to completely get rid of the blotches. Some people are also allergic to some treatment methods and it is therefore not wise to use them.

An example of a method that can be used to remove age spots is cryotherapy. This involves the use of liquid nitrogen to freeze and kill the cells around the affected area, hence allowing other cells to develop and replace them. This method however, could lead to permanent scarring or skin discoloration.

A very similar method to this is Laser therapy, which involves the use of a laser beam to kill the affected cells. This, just like in cryotherapy, gives room for the development of new, blotch-less skin cells, hence getting rid of age spots. Chemical peel, on the other hand, involves the use of an acid to burn off the top layer of the skin in the affected area. A new layer of skin usually develops to replace this.

All the above methods should be carried out by a professional dermatologist. There are however, many other ways to remove age spots that can be carried out at home. A good method, for example, is the use of castor oil. This is rubbed on the spots every morning and evening for about a month.

The use of Apple cider vinegar and Aloe Vera are two other good home remedies. Any of these two is gently rubbed on the blotches for about forty five minutes two times every day. This process should be carried out daily for about thirty days until the spots completely disappear.
