Celebrities With Age Spots

Have you ever looked at a magazine photo shot of a celebrity and wondered why he or she looks so flawless? No sags, no crooked nose or teeth, no freckles. How do they accomplish that?  Are celebrities immune to skin conditions?  No, they are not.

Age spots otherwise known as solar lentigenes, or sometimes liver spots, are a discoloration of the skin as a result of aging or over-exposure to the sun.  They are sometimes brown, black or even grey, appearing on mostly on the hands, face, and any prolong area of the body that has been exposed to the sun. Age spots may start out as small a freckle or augment to as large as a centimeter.

As we get older, the ability for the skin to regenerate occurs at a slower pace than when we were young.  Although the purpose of melanin found in the skin is to absorb sunlight, when we have had too much exposure the production of melanin is increased and will cause the affected area to look darker than the actual skin color.  In other words, the top layer of the skin becomes thick and the concentrated pigmentation becomes visible. However, melanin, when it absorbs sunlight, it protects our skin from the UV rays of the sun. Therefore, the longer our skin is exposed to the UV rays; the production of melanin will no doubt amplify.

Accordingly, celebrities are very much prone to having age spots as well and any other imperfections they may have. We may not think so because they are able to afford the expensive treatments such as laser therapy, microdermabrasion or clinical make-up to cover up the flaws. But many, if not all celebrities, struggle with their self image and inadequacies much more than we do; as they have to keep up appearances. Candid shots can sometimes find them wearing wide-brimmed hats and sunglasses. Furthermore, they never go anywhere without their sunscreen or moisturizer. Let’s face it they are very cautious about protecting themselves from nature’s element.

But every human being who has been in the sun for an extended time and are aging will experience age spots; especially if you are over the age of 40.   Over exposure and the concentration of melanin will make our skin more susceptible to the harshness of sun; hence manifesting the damaging effects overtime. Whether you are a celebrity or not, having age spots does not signify that you dying, it just means that you are getting a little older and that you need to take precautionary measures in protecting your skin. As we know, the skin is the largest organ of the body and we certainly cannot live outside of it.
